Tier 1 application timeline and provided material guide

Just would like to share my experiences, eg timeline and provided materials, as a guide for whoever thinking of applying Tier 1.
Submitted my application on the 28th May, Wednesday
Receive the acknowledge of receipt from home office on 4th June, Wednesday
Didn’t hear anything until receive the approved application on 15th July
Provided materials:
Passports
Coverletter for my application, list of all awarded points and paid
Statement of attendance from my university in UK
Original certifiicate from my university
Statement of employment from my current employer(was working under IGS earlier)
11 pieces of payslips instead of 12 as before that I was student
11 pieces of bank statement which show the amount of the payslips in my account
I am so relieved now. Although the application form is >40 pages, and it is not easy to get approved, I think it is certainly do-able without the help of consultancy, which charge at least 1000pounds. Anyway, good luck!!

Congratulations!
I am from Malaysian Chinese who with Work Permit in UK. I prepare to submit this Saturday.
But, I found that my Bank Statement have my name in short form, such as ‘K Lau’. Isn’t normal?
Is your Bank Statement with your full name?
Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you
terry on 29 Aug 2008 at 00:38 #
Hi Kar Ming,
My bank statement had my full name, however, I think ‘K Lau’ should also be acceptable as use of initial is quite common in UK. I am sure you can request the bank statement again with the full name on from your bank, or request a letter from your bank stating that ‘K Lau’ is you.
Anyway, good luck!!

Thanks for your fast response.
To play safe, I will request a letter from your bank stating that ‘K Lau’ is me.
Thanks again

Hi,
I am putting in my application next week. I was wondering if my degree certificate is fine or they need all marklists also (I did my degree in the US). Also, do I only need to send my highest degree or all degree certificates from High school completion/
Any idea?
Thanks.
terry on 21 Sep 2008 at 23:51 #
Hi Matthew,
I only submitted my degree certificate without the result of individual exams, so I think it is absolutely fine. Of cause, if the marks are impressive and you have them on your hand, might as well send them along as it would do no harm. I did not provide any proof for earlier education(high school), as it doesn’t seem to be the most relevant.
Good luck!!

Hi Terry,
congratulations! Had a question on foreign qualification. I did my Masters from the Netherlands but didnt find the institution’s name on the PBS calculator in the UKBA home office website. But I am quite sure this should be equivalent to UK Masters degree – its a 16 month masters. What should I do? Thanks!
terry on 18 Oct 2008 at 21:45 #
Hi Salehin,
First of all, are you Dutch? Cause if you are, you probably do not need a work permit to work in UK.
In their website, they have mentioned about how qualifications are assessed if you are unable to find your institution:
“If you cannot find your academic qualifications on the points-based calculator, you may still wish to claim points for it. If so, you should contact UK NARIC directly for an assessment of the level of the qualification and, if UK NARIC confirms it is of the required level, obtain a letter and/or confirmation certificate from UK NARIC. You can find a link to the UK NARIC website on the right of this page. It is an independent website, for which we are not responsible. It may charge a fee for confirming qualifications.
If UK NARIC cannot confirm the equivalence of your qualification, we will not award points for it. In this case, you may wish to use an alternative qualification if you have one.”
Site:http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier1/general/eligibility/pointsassessment/qualifications/
You can try to look up their website and see if your institution is on their list, or otherwise you need to contact them regarding to this, but they might charge. May I ask what course did you take and institution? If it is technical course, then it is usually accepted.
Good luck,
Terry
